Time and Emotion for IBM

the brief

To create software which would respond to and represent live workplace data from two IBM sites, the first on London’s south bank, the second in Hersley, Hampshire.

the project

IBM monitor various metrics from within their buildings, from keystrokes and mouse movement to movement around the buildings themselves. The aim of the project was to draw out from this dry statistical data an inference as to the volume and type of activity being carried out, and ultimately the emotional state of the buildings’ occupants. It was this emotional state that the suite of visual and audio software applications created by rom and son attempted to represent.
